The Word Became Flesh

THE WORD BECAME FLESH

By Rodney W. Francis

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men . . . And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory (“real knowledge of a matter; truth”), the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:1-4, 14, NKJV).

Jesus is God and He is the Word that became flesh. He was born into this world according to the Word of God. The Word of God proclaimed His coming, and His coming fulfilled the Word of God regarding Him. Whatever Jesus said and did was according to the principles and truth of the Word of God, the Scriptures, the Bible. Some religions teach that Jesus was a God, but the Bible declares Him to be God.

True Bible Christianity is very different to religious teachings. Even Nicodemus, one of the leading theologians in Israel when Jesus was here in the flesh, was told that he had to be born-again to see and enter the Kingdom of God (John 3:1-21). As learned as Nicodemus was, he did not know what Jesus was talking about. He had natural Bible history knowledge, but no discernment of the truth of God that comes by the Holy Spirit revelation! He was religious but without true revelation of Who Jesus was and is. Sadly today, so many are like him.

Jesus always worked in harmony with what His Father God told and/or showed Him. But that stirred up the religious Jews and they tried to kill Him. They could not accept that Jesus was God. Jesus told them:

“’My Father has been working until now, and I have been working’. Therefore the Jews sought to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God. Then Jesus answered and said to them, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner. For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel (“be astonied, to look on with wonder and amazement”). For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom He will. For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son, that all should honour (“hold worthy”) the Son just as they honour the Father. He who does not honour the Son does not honour the Father Who sent Him. Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My Word and believes in Him Who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life’” (see John Chapter 5).

“And without controversy great is the mystery (“hidden truth”) of godliness: God was manifested (“shown openly”) in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up in glory” (1 Timothy 3:16). Jesus Christ is God manifested in the flesh so that we might know Him and His will. And it is all confirmed in the Word of God!

  • That is why it is so vitally important that Christians know the Bible and what it teaches. For if we do not know the principles of Scripture, how can we know that the voice we are hearing is God, or someone else?
  • The Word of God is always the confirmation of the voice of Jesus and the Holy Spirit to us.

So many doubt God’s voice, but when we know what the Bible teaches we can know that the voice of the Holy Spirit is the voice of truth that always magnifies Jesus Christ. He never violates the principles of the Bible. God is His Word, Jesus is the Word become flesh and the Holy Spirit is sent to reveal both the Father and the Son to us. It is not by natural knowledge, but by the revelation of the Holy Spirit. That is why it is so important that we are born-again by the Holy Spirit, for the things of God are spiritually discerned. “No one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit Who is from God, that we might know the things that been freely given to us by God . . . but the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned” (1 Corinthians Chapter 2 – read the whole chapter).

Notice what is being said here. We cannot receive the things of God by the natural mind or understanding. Head knowledge is a hindrance to real progress in the things of God. The Holy Spirit has to impart into our spirit the truth of the Word of God, and Who Jesus really is.

  • Do you know the Jesus of the Bible?
  • The Word become flesh and Who dwells among us?
  • How well do you know the Bible?
  • Is the revelation of the true Jesus coming to you as you read and search the Scriptures?

We need to be like the Bereans who “received the word with all readiness (“willingness, eagerness”) , and searched (“estimate carefully, judge of, sift”) the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so” (Acts 17:11). They took the time to line-up what was preached in the pulpit with what the Scriptures declared. They did not live by the belief that if Pastor so and so said it, it must be right. There is much mixture coming forth these days that we would be very unwise to not check out what has been spoken or preached with the Word of God. The Bible has many warnings about the days in which we are now living, and that many would be led astray with strange doctrines, etc. (Hebrews 13:9). Again, this reinforces the need that we know the Scriptures for ourselves. For if we do not know the Scriptures, we will not pick-up when teachings are given out of context with the principles of God’s Word ~ and we can then be easily led astray.

  • Jesus Christ and His Word must always be the focus of our attention.
  • Anyone or anything that takes the place of Jesus Christ of being our first priority and attention will lead us into deception.

ONLY JESUS CHRIST!

Only Jesus Christ has paid the supreme sacrifice for our sins through His life, shedding of His blood to cleanse us, death, burial and resurrection. No one else ~ and no other different teaching can accomplish what Jesus Christ has accomplished for us. When He is truly Lord and Master of our life, then we experience that “life and life more abundantly” (John 10:10) that He came to give us. The more we yield to Jesus Christ and His Lordship, the more we will know His resurrection power in and through these earthen bodies of ours. The more we accept Him as to Who He really is, the more revelation knowledge we will receive to enable us to fulfil His plan and purpose as “new creations in Christ Jesus” (2 Corinthians 5:17-21). And the more revelation knowledge we receive, the more we will know God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit within us day by day. It is such a privilege and joy to know Jesus Christ in reality in these days, and to know that He has the answer for every problem we will encounter here on earth. Let us make very sure that we know Who “The Word became flesh” is, and let us yield to Him more and more so we can prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God for our lives: “I beseech (“urge”) you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable (“well-pleasing”) to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove (“discern, examine”) what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God” (Romans 12:1-2).

Praise God for the truth that sets us free through the finished work of Jesus Christ when He “the Word became flesh” came and dwelt among us. Yield your all to Him today and then get ready for Him to amaze you at what He can do in and through YOU! God bless you.
