Ordinary People? You Be The Judge! “Therefore if any man (or woman) be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17 – KJV) To the world we are ordinary people made of flesh and blood. But as born-again Christians, born of the Spirit of the Living God, we are more than just ordinary people. We have the power of God beating in our hearts. We have the Holy Spirit of God continually abiding within us. Scripture says, “We are more than conquerors through Him who loved us” (Romans 8:37). We are “new creatures” – not old ones merely patched-up! As “new creatures” we have no past records of sin, no convictions held against us because Jesus, by His grace and mercy, has recreated us from the inside out. In every circumstance of life we are “more than conquerors,” we are more than ordinary, through Christ Who loves us. It’s Christ Who makes us overcomers! It’s Christ Who causes us to triumph! It’s Christ Who gives us complete victory over sin, death and hell! Our faith is not destroyed. Our love is not diminished. Our hope is not shattered . . . because of Christ. If God is for us (and He is), and we
abide in His love, we can defy all the powers of darkness because of the
holy boldness He deposits in us when we are born-again.
When we study many of the Bible characters, we see that when they
trusted wholeheartedly in God, circumstances were changed significantly
and negative situations and opposing forces were brought to nothing,
because one committed man or woman PLUS GOD makes a majority, a winning
team. God will move
mountains to exalt His name through individual believers.
Daniel was such an example. When King Darius unwittingly put his signature to a new outrageous, anti-God law, condemning to death anyone who dared to petition any God or man other than himself, little did he realise that he was coming up against the Supreme God of the whole earth. And God moved mountains to intervene for Daniel, sealing shut the mouths of the lions when he was thrown into their den for disobeying the new law. The Lord was not going to stand idly by and see His faithful servant, Daniel, become a “McDaniel hamburger” for a pack of hungry lions! King Darius, who signed the petition without giving it careful consideration, was so overjoyed with God’s intervention for Daniel that he condemned every scheming man and their family to the same fate they had desired for Daniel. The people of the world who know not Christ do not have this inner protection and power of God pulsating in their hearts. They do not have the joy of being a new creation. They have to live under the burden of sin because they have not called upon the name of the Lord to wash away their past. It’s the world, labouring under the burden of sin, that’s falling apart. It’s the world, having chosen secular humanism over the Word of God, that’s become a slave to immorality and utter degradation. But we, the new creations in Christ, the conquerors, can face each day with great confidence because our trust is in God and not in man.
