God's Word Is Forever!

Pause for a moment and think about the insecurity of life and all that it consists of.  Can we name one thing in life that will never change or falter?  Our body is prone to sickness.  Our career is subject to redundancy.  Our friends can sometimes abandon us.  Our marriage can be dissolved through unfaithfulness.  Our children can ignore wise counsel and turn their backs on us.  Yes, all that life consists of is subject to change.

Of course those changes can be positive too.  Our body can be healed.  Our career can lead to promotion.  We can gain great new friends.  Our marriage can be the most wonderful earthly contract that we faithfully keep. Our children can be one of the greatest blessings we have in our life.

Now pause for another moment and consider the only precious commodity we have in life that will NEVER CHANGE “the Word of God, which lives and abides forever” (1 Peter 1:23); “But the Word of the Lord endures forever” (1 Peter 1:25).

Yes, God’s Word is the surest foundation we can ever have in life because it will never pass away.  Jesus talked about our foundation in Matthew 7:24 – “Therefore, everyone who HEARS THESE WORDS OF MINE AND OBEYS THEM IS LIKE A WISE MAN WHO BUILT HIS HOUSE ON A ROCK (ISV).

"These words I speak to you are not incidental additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. THEY ARE FOUNDATIONAL WORDS, WORDS TO BUILD A LIFE ON.  If you work these words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who built his house on solid rock” (The Message).

Verse 25 - “The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, but IT DID NOT COLLAPSE BECAUSE ITS FOUNDATION WAS ON THE ROCK (ISV).

“Rain poured down, the river flooded, a tornado hit--but NOTHING MOVED THAT HOUSE.  IT WAS FIXED TO THE ROCK” (The Message).

Who in this world doesn’t need security and strong, immovable foundations in their life?  Worldwide there is a longing for peace and stability.  Jesus, our Saviour, is the author of peace and stability - He is the Prince of Peace.

To have this wonderful peace, despite the turmoil going on all around us, we must KNOW the Prince of Peace Himself. We cannot deviate from the foundational truths in the Word of God, as Jesus warns in verses 26 – 27, “Everyone who hears these words of Mine and doesn't obey them is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and battered that house, and it collapsed, and its collapse was devastating” (ISV).

These verses portray the very same message contained in Proverbs - “When the whirlwind passes, the wicked is no more; but the righteous stand firm forever” (Proverbs 10:25, HNV).

Through hearing the Word of God and obeying it, we are building our lives upon the surest foundation there is in this world.  A good salesman would want everyone to know about this secret to life!!  It’s the very key to successful living.  What is that key? . . . Living and abiding in the Word of God.

“The Word became a human being (Jesus Christ) and, full of grace and truth, lived among us. We saw His glory, the glory which He received as the Father's only Son” (John 1:14 - GNB).

  • Do you have the Prince of Peace abiding in you?

  • Is your life built upon the Rock, Christ Jesus?

  • If not, whisper a prayer and ask Jesus to come into your heart and life today.

  • Then you can begin to build your life upon the strongest and surest foundations ever offered to man.
