Be Yourself In God

How wonderful it is that God, Who formed us in the womb, has made us all unique and different.  Just think how confusing it would be if there were many replicas of each one of us around the world (God spare us from cloning!).  The Lord wants us to be ourself in Him, not trying to copy or emulate someone else – learning from their good points yes, but still being our own unique self.  Each one of us have different characters, personalities, giftings, skills and resources that God has given us in order to be the unique person He created us to be.  We are an original!

On the other hand, the devil doesn’t want us to shine as God’s glorious creations; he wants us to live in a state of confusion as to who we really are.  But, we’ve got news for him … we know God’s storyline!  We are appointed to be conquerors and overcomers, created to walk in our inheritance in Christ, through the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit. His Word is full of encouraging, uplifting verses that confirm to us our inheritance as we live for Him and His kingdom.  Take Romans 15:13 for example:

“Now the God of hope FILL you with ALL JOY and PEACE in believing, that you may ABOUND IN HOPE, through the POWER of the HOLY GHOST”  (Romans 15:13, Emphasis added).

  • It is GOD Who fills us with all joy and peace as we believe.

  • It is GOD Who causes us to abound in hope through the power of His Holy Spirit.

Think for a moment about Joseph.  As a teenager he’d had a couple of dreams, but at the time he had no idea of their huge significance, or, that much time and many difficult circumstances would occur in his life that would enable those dreams to come to pass.  When the Lord shows us good things that will happen in our life, they help to carry us through the future testings.

Then came the testings.  Joseph was never consulted about being sold as a slave into Egypt.  But how wonderfully unique he was.  He didn’t have his family to lean on or draw strength from once he was taken prisoner.  But God, Who had been shaping and moulding him since birth, caused him to mature into one of the finest men we read about in Scripture.  He KNEW WHO HE WAS IN GOD and he served Him faithfully through being himself: through living out the principles of God in the very noblest of ways and never wavering from his profound trust in Him.

DRAW NEAR TO GOD AND BE YOURSELF.  Co-operate with Him and allow Him to work out His unique, special plans and purposes in your life that are earmarked especially for YOU.
